Nick Makrygiannis commenced his career with Peterborough Transit in February 2006.

During the reasonably short time that he has been a member of ATU Local 1320, he has demonstrated a keen interest in the affairs of our Local by attending regular meetings and volunteering to assist whenever help was needed.

Nick enthusiastically assented to a request to become an appointed Executive Board Member on June 1, 2008 to fill a vacancy due to a resignation and other movement within the executive ranks. “I found it interesting and a good opportunity to help my brothers and sisters”, he replied when asked why he decided to accept the position. He added, “Overall we are a decent group of people who want to better our lives. We have made some huge gains.” He emphatically stated that he has met some exceptionally nice people and he enjoys working with them.

Local 1320 is a very busy local with many innovative and challenging programs. Nick’s title, “Executive Board Member”, reflects the additional responsibilities and expectations placed on him over and above that of being a steward. Although he has limited experience within the union, he brings a wealth of thoughtful and practical ideas to the table and immeasurable enthusiasm. Nick diligently researches the facts before jumping blindly into a situation and is quick to seek a second opinion or advice from another member of the executive if he is unsure about something. He is a natural and exceedingly proficient at what he does.

Nick is a very intelligent man who exhibits a high degree of integrity, honesty, duty, wisdom and honour. One trait that Nick continuously exhibits is his boundless energy and his eagerness to use that energy for the advocacy and betterment of this Local and its members. Nick has earned a high degree of respect by his peers on the executive and the membership alike. Nick’s presence on the executive has proven to be a very positive factor for this Local and all of its members.

Nick is a very sociable and popular individual. His keen sense of humor is ever present, the scope of which varies from the hilarious to a shrewd dry humor that is habitually betrayed by the twinkle in his eyes. He is swift to deliberate on his feet and exhibits signs of being an excellent, cunning and skillful debater. His contributions at future negotiation tables will prove to be invaluable for this Local.

Nick is not all about work and the union. He shares his home with his lovely wife Joy and their two dogs. For recreation, Nick enjoys doing research on his computer, home renovations and repairs, working on his own personal vehicles, watching hockey on the television and mostly spending time with his wife and dogs.

Nick Makrygiannis is a most welcome addition to the executive team. Although he brings a multitude of strong attributes to his position, the chief among them is that he deeply cares about his brothers and sisters in this Local. We are honoured to have someone of his caliber working amongst us. Thank you, Brother Nick, for all that you have done and for what we hope you will continue to do for us. We appreciate you very much and consider you to be our friend and brother.
